Oh, yes! Zack Snyder is back!
The Batman V Superman and Man Of Steel director has announced that he’s returning to zombies and we’re all really excited… remember this jaw-dropping opening to his Dawn of the Dead remake?
Speaking about the new venture, Snyder said: “No one’s ever let me completely loose,” and, as the director if 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch, this has our minds blown!
The director who was last on our radar for directing (ahem) Justice League, has been off radar for a while and now we’re celebrating his return…
The director has signed on to zombie thriller Army of the Dead for Netflix. As usual, Snyder will direct and produce with his partner and wife, Deborah Snyder, through their newly rebranded production company, Stone Quarry.
The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
The movie was set to be made at Warner Bros, but Netflix has taken the reigns and are throwing $90 million at it
“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” Snyder says.
Snyder recently last his daughter to suicide and has been putting himself into suicide prevention work and has stayed away from filming after the (undoubtedly sour-taste of) Justice League.
“I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way,” he says.
Speaking of Watchmen, Man of Steel and Batman V Sueprman, he said: “I love to honor canon and the works of art. But this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”
Honestly, the idea of Slyer being let run riot on a zombie heist movie sounds like pure delight… and it’ll be great to get the director of three of our favourite comic book movies doing what he loves again.
And we’ll be able to watch it at home.
