Following a sell-out run at the Baby Grand earlier this year, award-winning local theatre company, Brassneck Theatre will return to the main stage at the Grand Opera House with The Sweety Bottle. The show will run from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 August.
Set in Belfast in the 1970s, a popular shebeen is in full swing at the rear of Brennan’s sweet shop. This secret drinking den is a place where punters come to escape the troubles around them and to exorcise their own personal demons. With hilarious characters and calamitous incidents, audiences will embark on a voyage to an era where the city and its people never ceased to find humour in even the darkest of times.
Written by Joe and Gerard Brennan, a father-son writing duo, The Sweety Bottle recalls the pair’s own fond memories of Joe’s father’s shebeen and the community that once graced it. A hilariously nostalgic trip down memory lane, ‘The Sweety Bottle’ is sure to have audiences crying with laughter as they remember everything good about Belfast during the rare auld times.
