Ahmed Best addresses the Jar-Jar Binks returning in Obi-Wan series rumour…

April 15th, 2020 by Marc Comments

You may recall a while back that there was a rumour of a bearded Jar-Jar Binks appearing in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series (here)?

Well now Jar-Jar actor Ahmed Best – who is currently working with Disney/Lucasfilm on kids’ game show Jedi Temple Challenge (here) – has addressed the rumour.

It seems that a reported story leak had a down-on-his-luck Jar-Jar appearing in the series, complete with a great big bushy beard! Once it was announced that Best was working with Disney on the game show, it seems like 1+1=20. Or something.

Now, the actor who seems interested in returning to the role that was both a blessing and a curse for him, and getting to deal with a Jar-Jar who is dealing with the reality that he was the one that saw Sheev Palpatine becoming Emperor: “Not as far as I know, no. I haven’t been asked,” Best said.

“I just don’t know, to be completely honest I think Jar Jar is something Lucasfilm are trying to move away from, I’m not going to hold my breath for a Jar Jar cameo in Obi-Wan but you know, who knows…”

We do, of course, know that the Obi-Wan series was delayed over story issues and is currently being rewritten (here), so even of Best hasn’t been approached, there’s nothing to say there couldn’t still be some truth to the rumour.

Personally, I like the idea of Jar-Jar being redeemed in the Star Wars universe – the role proved an achor around Best’s neck and, if nothing else, it would be nice to see the fandom welcome him back to the fold and make him feel right at home, as he always should have been.

What say you all?
