Oh, boy… is there hope that we could see Ahh Williams and the gang return for more Ash Vs. Evil Dead?!
According to two of its stars, it’s certainly not totally out of the question.
The series, a sequel to Sam Raimi’s awesome Evil Dead trilogy, saw the legendary Bruce Campell return to the iconic role of Ash Williams, joined this time by his two friends Pablo, played by Ray Santiago and Kelly, played by Dana DeLorenzo as he continues to fight the deadites intent on taking over the world.
The series appeared on Starz and managed to honour the original black humour and body horror of the movies – and sometimes out did both – in ways we could never have imagined.
We were all heartbroken when the show was cancelled after three seasons and the subsequent announcement by Campbell that he’s done playing the role (although there is more Evil Dead coming to the big screen in one form or other) left us a little downtrodden.
However, in a new interview (below), Santiago and DeLorenzo say that they think they could talk Campbell back if the show could find another home.
“We could have had a bigger audience were we on a platform like Hulu or Amazon or Netflix, but because we were on this cable subscription, it really limited the audience… I was really looking forward to seeing where things were gonna go with the show, just because we had set up so many relationships. It was just all there to play with,” said Santiago.
“I think enough time has passed by. He just needs a good couple of – one or two years of just like chilling in the woods and not having the Boomstick in his hands, and then he starts to crave it, and it’ll come back.”
DeLorenzo adds: “I’ve been reading all these very terrifying things about our industry and just productions and things are being shelved and whatnot, so I honestly feel like never say never. There have been shows where they get cancelled but then they’re picked up by another network.”
But what about the retired Campbell? Well, DeLorenzo believes they could quickly sort that out: “I know Bruce has said he is in retirement, but I feel like Ray and I could convince him,” she says.
She could convince us to do anything at all, in fairness.
What say you all? More Campbell as Ash on the small screen? I’d take it in a heartbeat… what about you all?
