Following reports surrounding the upcoming Ghostbusters animated series and its planned Annecy International Animation Film Festival debut, Netflix, Sony Pictures Animation, and Ghost Corps have now revealed additional details about the first look, reaffirmed a targeted release window, and confirmed the involvement of franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd, writes our good friend Jason at Ghostbusters News.

As part of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, taking place June 21 through 27 in Annecy, France, Netflix will present a first look at the untitled animated series on June 24th, marking the franchise’s first official showcase for the long-awaited project.

According to newly issued press materials, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire filmmakers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, both serving as executive producers on the animated series, will attend the presentation alongside showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan.

Also confirmed for the series is Ghostbusters co-creator Dan Aykroyd, who will serve as an executive producer on the upcoming animated project, a role he has held across Ghost Corps productions since the company’s formation. Sony has also outlined a targeted 2027 release, with further details coming later.

While the series was first announced during Ghostbusters Day 2022, details have remained largely under wraps in the years since, with only occasional teases surfacing through industry events and trade reports, including a private Annecy presentation last year in which Netflix’s Dominique Bazay described the project as “Ghostbusters as you’ve never seen it,” with animation dutie being handled by Flying Bark Productions, the studio behind Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Glitch Techs, and Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.

As always, we’ll continue following all reveals leading up to and coming out of Netflix and Sony’s Ghostbusters presentation at Annecy, so be sure to keep checking back with Ghostbusters News and our YouTube channel for the latest updates.
