Ben Affleck wanted by AT&T for a Batman TV series?

April 20th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like those rumours about Ben Affleck returning as Batman on HBO Max are back.

This is something we’ve heard for a while (just scroll down here for all the rumours) and now it’s back and this time it seems that HBO Max and AT&T want to bring Affleck back not for a movie but for a limited series, the reason being, they want to go head-to-head with Disney+’s Marvel shows and they think Affleck as Batman is the way to do that.

And, have to say, I’d tend to think they’re right.

Now, yes, we know that Affleck walked away from the role four years ago after having a bad, a very bad, experience filming Justice League, leading to his standalone movie hitting the ropes but since then he has come back for the Snyder Cut and will also return for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash movie, so he’s obviously up for coming back to the character and, let’s not forget, he’s a massive Batman fan.

“I’m told that AT&T wants more than a Ben Affleck Batman movie,” goes the rumour, “They want a limited series wherein Ben Affleck has the time for his tale to unfold.”

The rumour says this is nothing to do with Warner Bros Vs HBO Max or the performance of the Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s just something that they think would be great business.

“Apparently, AT&T sees greater potential in this going forward if it really takes off and Ben Affleck is willing to extend his time in the Batcave.”

With word being the DCEU will be forever altered after The Flash (here), it’s likely that the multiverse will be firmly established after it and, with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and (presumably) Ezra Miller’s Flash carrying on, it’s going to be difficult to establish the Snyderverse as well as the DCEU that came after Joss Whedon’s take on Justice League.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’ll take some explaining. But for Affleck giving us a Batman TV series, it’ll be worth working it all out.

What say you all? Would you watch an Affleck Batman series? Or is that a silly question? Let me know…
