Charlie Cox’s Daredevil set for big role in Disney+ Echo series

August 23rd, 2021 by Marc Comments

We reported a few weeks ago that Vincent D’Onofrio is expected to appear in the upcoming Hawkeye series (here), returning to the role of Kingpin which he played so terrifyingly in Netflix’s Daredevil series, thus opening the door to other characters from those shows finally stepping officially into the MCU.

Since then we have learned that Marvel/Disney+ are planning an Echo series which may explain Kingpin’s presence and also lead us to the news that it seems Echo will also see Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil (above, left) take a prominent role in the MCU.

In the comics Echo is a girl called Maya Lopez who is deaf but has the ability to mimic music and fighting styles (hence, Echo) whose father was murdered by Kingpin who then took the young girl under his wing. She and Daredevil fought in the comics after Kingpin told her it was the hero that killed her father, but there’s much, much more to their story than just that and it seems the series Echo may be setting out to explore just that.

We also reported recently that Matt Murdock would appear in Spider-man: No Way Home as the lawyer appointed to defend Peter Parker (here) after the world found out Spider-man’s secret identity and now believe that he killed Mysterio (in Spider-man: Far From Home) and, if that leaked No Way Home trailer is to be believed (yes, we saw it), then it really does seem Cox is now officially in the MCU with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

In the Echo series, if these reports are correct, Daredevil will have a new suit and will be far from a cameo character alongside actress Alaqua Cox (above, right) who will be playing the title role of Echo; Echo will be first introduced in the Hawkeye series before stepping into her own show – this is all a great way of bringing Daredevil and Kingpin into the MCU and tying the whole story together.

It also seems that Better Call Saul writer Marion Dayre will be working on the series although in what context we’re not sure yet but the safe money could be on showrunner.

Interestingly, this all comes back to a recent interview with Marvel boss Kevin Feige in which he was asked about possibly bringing back such characters as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the Agents of SHIELD who all appeared in other Marvel shows that weren’t officially under the MCU banner on Netflix and ABC, to which he replied: “I think we probably could do it.

“I think a lot of that stuff comes back to us. There’s always rumors online about things reverting, sometimes that’s true, sometimes it’s not, and I’m not exactly sure of the exact contracts. But perhaps someday.”

Hmmmmmmmmm… it seems ‘someday’ may come sooner than we dared hope.

Echo is expected to film in January 2022. Hawkeye streams on Disney+ on November 24th.
