Cobra Kai spinoff shows coming?

If, like all of us here at FTN HQ, you’re still loving everything Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, then have I got potentially awesome news for you!

We already know that the fourth and fifth seasons are likely a-go at Netflix with season four currently waiting to begin filming, the creators of the show are already looking beyond the confines of Cobra Kai and get out into the world of spinoffs.

“Our hope is that we can really expand this whole Karate Kid universe and reinvigorate the fanbase, so that it’s a story we can continue telling,” said co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg.

“We do have an endgame for Cobra Kai, but we always compare it to our other favorite show, Breaking Bad, [and how] they’re able to keep the story going with Better Call Saul and El Camino.”

In season three (minor spoilers) we see a lot of Kreese, played by Martin Kove, and how he became the man we know from the movies and the series and it seems they may be looking at exploring that some more in future: “We spend time with Kreese’s backstory [in Season 3], but we could’ve spent more time with Kreese’s backstory. We have so many things to tell in these half-hour episodes, it ends up not being enough. We’re just having a fun time as friends getting to work in the sandbox of The Karate Kid and hope to keep it going.”

Schlossberg is keen to point out that all the people involved with the show have become a bit obsessed with it and are always working on new way st expand the story and tell more stories: “Every permutation of spinoff or deep-dive crosses our minds. It all has to be the right thing, and it has to be the same level of quality that Cobra Kai is. Our minds are always thinking Karate Kid, so that possibility is definitely out there.”

Personally, if they can keep up the same level of quality as we have got in the first three seasons then I’ll happily tune in for a million spinoffs… I just hope they don’t go down the regrettable road of diluting the brand to the point of ruining it. But every episode cements my confident a little more in these guys.

What say you all? Cobra Kai never dies or let it go? Let me know…
