Dexter: New Blood not happening at Showtime but young Dexter series being considered

While last year’s Dexter: New Blood, rather than being the return of the character we hoped for, was another damp squib of an ending for the series, we knew there was the possibility of another series was pretty high.

New Blood was a big hit for Showtime and even though the lead, Dexter Morgan, played by Micheal C Hall) was dead, there was plans to possibly continue the tail with his son, Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, left (here).

It was revealed in New Blood that Harrison carried the same ‘dark passenger’ that his father had, which led Dexter to dispose of society’s bad guys, directing his rage for good, and it was along these lines it was considered to continue the series.

However, it seems that this idea is now abandoned with the possibility of instead recasting Dexter and bringing the character back for a ‘Young Dexter’ series.

According to TVLine, Showtime sees Dexter as a potential earner in the future and will not be calling time now that New Blood is over and “is exploring a number of new iterations of Dexter, including a prequel series centered around a young version of the titular antihero”.

After recently being asked about the return of the iconic character, Executive Producer and Showrunner Clyde Phillips said: “As you can imagine, that’s not the first time I’ve been asked that, Dexter is hugely successful for Showtime.

“It’s all in Showtime’s hands, if they were to call me and say, ‘We want to do Harrison. We want you to figure it out,’ I’m pretty busy, but I would drop everything I’m doing and jump right into it. I would love to do it, but it’s really up to Showtime.”

Dexter is one of my favourite shows but is probably the only series in history to have a terrible ending not once but twice. That said, if he was back, I’d tune in in a heartbeat.
