Gargoyles live-action TV series in development with horror heavy hitters

November 30th, 2023 by Marc Comments

Fans have been crying out for it for years and it looks like it’s finally happening… Gargoyles is (are?) coming back! In live action!

The hit animated show from Walt Disney Television Animation ran from 1994 to 1997 and tells the story of a clan of heroic Gargoyles who protect New York just as they did in Scotland centuries before and it is often called out by fans and creator Greg Weisman when the question of ‘which classic series deserves a resurrection’ is brought up.

And now it’s going to happen.

A while back there were (fake, it seems) rumours that Thor and Frankenstein director Kenneth Brannagh was set to direct a movie adaptation but it seems that while that is debunked, the news of it being a series are indeed real.

Want a Gargoyles movie? Then you need to watch this and show your support

Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, creators of the Annabelle series, are on board to bring the series to life and, given the horror credentials of all involved, it’s a safe bet that this will be a darker outing for the characters.

IT Chapter 2 and Swamp Thing writer Dauberman will be penning and show running at Disney.

So, were you a fan of Gargoyles back in the day? I’ll be honest, it came along a little late for me to appreciate though I do remember catching it quite often when my younger brother was tuning in and I certainly liked what I saw, so I could see it being a lot of fun.
