Harley Quinn: The Animated Series gets its own comic book spin-off – and we have some details about her and Ivy’s future together

If, like us, you’re pacing the floor waiting for the return of the Harley Quinn animated series, then we have some good news for you all.

While we have known since last September (here) that a third season of the DC Universe series was coming – still no word on when though, so we’re guessing late this year or early next – we have had very little else to go on.

But now we know that, while we wait for Kaley Cuoco’s Harley and Lake Bell’s Poison Ivy to return and how their relationship is going, we have some cool news for you tonight.

Firstly, there is a DC Comics series called Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – The Eat, Bang, Kill Tour coming which will fill the gap between seasons two and three and it will be written by Bingo Love’s Tee Franklin. Max Sarin will be on art and Taylor Esposito doing the lettering.

Harley and Ivy on the road trip of the century! Following the wedding disaster of the decade, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy end up on the run from Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD! But as fun as all that sounds, Ivy still worries over leaving Kite Man at the altar… Luckily, Harley’s got the perfect scheme to shake her out of her wedding-day blues!

The series will hit in September – so we’re expecting the actual season three to hit near year’s end as we said above.

Interestingly, it looks like the series will not be focusing on whether or not Harley and Ivy’s relationship will survive; Co-showrunner of the series Justin Halpern has said of the show’s future: “When we were talking about where a third season could go, the first thing we both said is, ‘We don’t want to do a third season where it feels like the stakes are [whether] Harley and Ivy stay together.

“It’s much more interesting to do a show about how you navigate these very different personalities being in a relationship. And what are the fun things that can come out of that? What are the outside influences that can make that relationship tough but without the stakes being, ‘Are they going to break up? Are they not?’ So yeah, if there’s a third season, which I hope there will be, the stakes will not be, ‘Are Harley and Ivy going to stay together?’ They’re a couple.”

This is likely for the fans of Harley and Joker’s relationship who were maybe hoping it would be re-ignited in the show. Looks like nope, that’s not the plan.

How you feeling about this? I love the duo together, so I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next and this comic book will be on my pull-list come September. what about you all?

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – The Eat Bang Kill Tour #1 goes on sale on September 14th.
