There’s no doubt the Harry Potter franchise is one of the most lucrative around – although it took a hot with the most recent movie instalment, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald but, in fairness, that’s most because it wasn’t very good.
But this has not slowed anything down. We know the third instalment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is coming and now, it seems, the Potter-verse is to get an even larger expansion.
Following the news that Tom Ascheim will serve as Warner Bros’ primary representative in its relationship with creator JK Rowling and her reps, agent Neil Blair and Blair Partnership Chief Creative Officer James McKnight, it seems there’s already plans to delve deeper into the world of Witches, Wizards and Hogwarts.
Ascheim is the head of WB’s kids, young adults and classics division and now he will be “expanding the Wizarding World property for the studio’s various outlets and platform partners”. So there’s a lot of magical content coming, it seems.
HBO Max has been confirmed as being the home of future Harry Potter live-action TV shows, although things are currently at a very early stage
It seems that, as of yet, no writers or talent are currently attached to any specific projects, so this is all still a long way away, but HBO Max and WB are very keen for this to happen and they both see Harry Potter as being the next MCU or DCEU with a vast universe out there waiting to be explored and developed. It should be added that Harry Potter has now become the name for the franchise like Star Wars or MCU and the shows will not necessarily be about HArry but his world.
So, while we have no more details to give you now, rest-assured the wizarding world has only begun to be explored at this stage.
I’m a big Harry Potter fan going back to the original books and movies and both my children have discovered them since and are big fans and I have written here before about my son being as excited about the first Fantastic Beasts movie as I was about a Star Wars movie or a new DC movie, so this is a big deal at my house and I’m sure there’s many more like us out there.
Are you one of them? I want to know how excited you are about this news.
