The life of The Walking Dead has gone from strength to strength. Now as one of the highest grossing, and biggest budgeted, productions of television it seems that AMC’s The Walking Dead is set to stay with us for a very long time. Upon being asked how long we may stay with Rick and the gang, the executives at AMC seemed to hint at ‘indefinitely’.

Joel Stiller, president of original programming and development at AMC, commented on how the show’s life is linked heavily to the comics, of which there are 25 volumes and over 140 issues.

Joel explains that; “[the show] in some way is directly correlated with the health of the storytelling in the comics… [Robert Kirkman] still writes every line of dialogue in those books, and is as engaged as he was when I think he was sitting around in Kentucky writing the first issue. That is very much part of the DNA of the show. He sort of felt like, in real life, this goes on for a very long time.”

AMC president Charlie Collier added; “I will tell you we are not actively talking about the end of ‘The Walking Dead,‘” He said; “As a brand, we’re very sensitive to making sure that every aspect of [The Walking Dead] feels fresh and original, and that it’s not treated in any way that’s derivative or taken for granted. Our planning is current and future-focused, and it is not focused on the end at this time.”

It’s official then, for the time being at least, the Walking Dead will be going on for a long time indeed.

The Walking Dead season six will return on 14th February 2016 on AMC.
