Oh, Dexter, where did it all go wrong?
From being, without question, one of TV’s greatest shows, it spiralled out of control over its eight seasons until it eventually ended in a bitterly disappointing finale.
And, to be honest, we were a little heart broken because, despite all the highs and lows, Dexter Morgan – Miami PD Blood Spatter analyst by day, murderer of bad guys by night – remained one of TV’s best anti-heroes.
Well, it seems that the folks at Showtime know the ending was a let down and they too are thinking that Dexter deserves a better send off.
Of course, deserving and getting are rarely the same thing. But let’s see what they have to say.
The head of Showtime, David Nevins, according to Screencrush, recently spoke at the TCA press tour panel and admitted he’s considered getting back to Miami’s Police Department: “Dexter is the one show that I would think about [continuing]. It’s a question of when the timing is right. If there’s a willingness to do it, I would certainly listen. Certainly I’d look at Dexter.”
However, earlier this year, he also said that, if Dexter was to come back, it absolutely had to be Michael C Hall in the role, and no recasting or any of that craziness: “It would have to involve Michael. I would only do it with Michael… It remains to be seen if they’re going to want to do it, if I’m going to want to do it. They never felt like killing Dexter is the right end. I think that show is that character. If we were to do it, I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I would want the show to feel different and not just be a continuation of the old show.”
Hmmmmmm…
Would a return to Dexter’s life have to be different? Well, we certainly saw him in a different place at the end of Season 8, so yes, it would have to be different. Could Dexter return to his murderous ways? Well, that we’d have to wait and see… but is it wrong that we’d love to see that again?
We miss Dexter Morgan. Do you?
