Matt Ryan’s John Constantine set for a two-episode story in Legends of Tomorrow season 3…

October 9th, 2017 by Marc Comments

After the trailer and poster arrived at New York Comic Con (here) we sort of secretly hoped that there might be plans for Matt Ryan’s live-action return as John Constantine in The CW’s DC Universe.

And lo, we have good news! John Constantine is coming back!

Legends of Tomorrow series showrunner Phil Klemmer has revealed that our favourite demon hunter is set to leave a mark on this season: “His appearance in episode 310 will involve the following: a revisiting of Arrow season four and the events following that season’s finale episode; a confrontation with this season’s Big Bad on Legends — the name we’ve only heard whispered until now Mallus; some hot sex — something that has been in short supply on the Waverider thus far in season three; and Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough), because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk? More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it’s The Exorcist meets One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Demonic possession in a mental institution, what’s not to love?”

Of course Ryan, who played John Constantine in the short lived series of the same name, was so loved by fans that he was brought into The CW universe (here) so this is his second appearance in this universe.

We did also get some details on Constantine’s sexuality in the show: “As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends.

So we may see Constantine’s bisexuality explored? The show’s producer David Cerone had this to add: “In [the] comic books, John Constantine aged in real time. Within this tome of three decades [of comics] there might have been one or two issues where he’s seen getting out of bed with a man. So [maybe] 20 years from now? But there are no immediate plans.”

He will appear in a two episode tale just after the Arrow/Flash/Legends/Supergirl crossover event… so get buckled in, there’s a lot of fun coming this side of Christmas!

Is is just us are is there hints that there may be plans at The CW for Constantine that have yet to be revealed? We can but hope.

Oh, and we have a new sizzle reel for the new season too (below).
