The truth is still out there… and closer than ever.
The Pilot episode of Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot/reimagining/sequel has finished filming, and star Himesh Patel has been talking about it… although, to be honest, he’s not able to say very much.

Now, just to be clear, Hulu has made the Pilot but this doesn’t mean a series is definitely coming (remember the Buffy reboot?) but Patel is optimistic. Now we just have to hope that Coogler, who made Black Panther and Sinners, has a vision that the studio likes and wants to get behind.
Chatting to Virgin Radio, the star of Yesterday and The Odyssey, said of the new series: “Fingers crossed it will go on the right journey…I think it’s just not wanting…to rush it, especially when it’s a property like The X-Files that is so precious to people…[It would be great if the reboot ran for many years] if you’ve got the story to tell.”
He also confirmed that he and Danielle Deadwyler’s (above) characters are fully new characters in the story.
EXCLUSIVE: Ernie Hudson discusses future of Ghostbusters: ‘more scary, like the originals’
This all makes sense, after all, The X-Files is a series that means an awful lot to people all over the world, and only paying for a Pilot first means that issues can be identified and changes can be made before a whole season is in the can… but it can also mean the studio can pull the plug immediately. But hopefully that won’t happen.
While very little is known about the direction of the new series, it’s likely it’ll be a sequel to the original series, with Coogler saying in the past that he has had discussions with both original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson about possibly appearing and it’s unlikely that Coogler would be as silly as Paul Feig and take back the original stars only to put them in silly and wholly pointless cameos.
Hopefully.
The Pilot also stars Steve Buscemi, Amy Madigan, Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, Lochlyn Munro, Sofia Grace Clifton, and Joel Montgrand.
Interestingly, the filming took place in Vancouver, BC, the home of much of the original series, and it was written and directed by Coogler. X-Files creator Chris Carter is also involved as an executive producer.
Personally, my thoughts would always have been to have Duchovny and Anderson back as Mulder and Scully to lead the new series, but there’s no arguing with the talent involved in the new show, and Coogler, fresh off Sinners, writing and directing makes me think this might just be a sequel that’s worth checking out.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
