Well now, talk about a bit of a dream come true…
It’s been clear from the beginning that Rick and Morty, apart from being derived from ‘rigor mortis’, was based on Doc and Marty from the Back to the Future franchise and now, well, the whole thing has come full circle.
Ahead of the season 5 double episode finale this weekend, Adult Swim have released a great little short starring Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd as Rick Sanchez and IT’s Jaeden Martell as his grandson Morty.
The series itself features many alternate realities and versions of Rick and Morty and the ones we see here are the C-132 versions – so not the Rick and Morty we follow throughout the series.
Many are wondering if this is a tease for a live-action episode, movie or something else and I seriously doubt it is as the creator, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, love putting out exciting and inventive teasers and shorts for the series (here and here)… however, if we ever got more of Lloyd as Rick we’d sit up all night watching it.
