We reported in the last day or two that Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry were set to star in the Child’s Play reboot coming from Orion Pictures.
And now we have confirmation from MGM and Orion who have released the following synopsis fo the movie:
Child’s Play follows a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
The new movie will be directed by with Lars Klevberg and you may recall a while back we reported some details of the movie that tie in with the new synopsis: The new Chucky is not a possessed toy but rather it’s “A defective ‘Buddy doll’ whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learning and also violence.”
A character in the movie is described as a “Chinese factory worker who commits suicide shortly after re-programming a Buddy doll to have no limitations”.
So, yeah, Chucky is now a Buddy doll, not a Good Guys doll and rather than being a serial killer he’s… murderous A.I?
Oh, and here’s the new Chucky (he’s also above in case you didn’t notice) – although we don’t know for sure if he’s called Chucky in this new reboot.

But, listen, if all this is bugging you, never fear, the original franchise – thanks the joy of rights and ownership – is still going on too. As is a TV show based on the original movies. Confused? Don’t be, this will clear it all up for you.
