FIRST LOOK at Back to the Future crossover comic and figure

July 12th, 2020 by Marc Comments

It was teased a few weeks back (here) that we were getting a Back to the Future X Ghostbusters crossover ala the Ghostbusters X Transformers one we got last year.

That saw us getting a very cool Ecto-1 Transformer toy called Ectotron (here) and a great Optimus Prime in the Ghostbusters colours along with a rather awesome IDW comic book crossover event (here) and, as we predicted, it looks like there is something very similar coming for this event too.

Last year marked the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters, this year is the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future. Great Scott!

And as such we’re getting a very cool Delorean Transformer figure called Gigawatt – Back to the Future fans will get the reference – and we have load of cool images above and below.

The figure was initially available in the US as a Walmart exclusive limited to 1985 (nice) pieces, but it sold out in seconds, so I’d forget about that.

However, the good news is that on October 1st the figure will be widely available ‘through Hasbro Pulse and other unspecified retail channels’ – just without the numbered packaging (I have spoken with a distributor who assures me the figure will be the same according to his sources), so that’s the one the vast majority of us will be grabbing.

We have since learned that once again IDW will be delivering the goods with a four-issue crossover event series and we have the two alternate covers of issue one below.

No word on story or creative team on this one yet, but I have a feeling it will continue from the previous crossover and will see the three famous franchise co-existing. And that alone has me excited as all hell.

Let me know your thoughts, gang.

And we have more images of the actual toy – which looks great, has the gullwing doors which open and the folding wheels so it is the flying Delorean from Back to the Future II… however, here’s hoping they fix that window as it looks ghastly. But I’s imagine they’ll come up with something: even just a tinted window.

What I do love though, is the Flux Capacitor as the chest piece. Nice touch.
