Who should play Batman?

July 25th, 2013 by Edwin Torres Jr 4 Comments

The Dark Knight Trilogy has come to an end and Christian Bale’s Batman has given up the cape and cowl for a second time, this time for good. Warner Bros. and their  recently announced Batman/Superman movie which we believe is titled Batman vs. Superman, means that they’re going to have to find someone else to take on the iconic role of Batman, a monumental task no doubt.

Bale has done such an masterful job with the role it will not be any easy task for any actor to follow in his footsteps. This is sure to be one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood over the next couple of years.

With that in mind, I present to you some actors that I believe could play Batman in the upcoming team up movie. This is by no means a complete list.

New FTN contributor Zack Drouillard made his feelings known here.

Me, I still don’t know. Man I wish Jon Hamm was younger.

I gotta go with Sam Witwer if we’re sticking strictly to this list. The way I see it, every Batman prior to Christian Bale sucked for 1 reason: they couldn’t play Bruce Wayne AND Batman. Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney all lacked the physicality to be Batman, but Keaton & Kilmer at least could “go there” when it came to showing Batman’s dark side. At least, as much as possible with Tim Burton & Joel Schumacher behind the wheel. Witwer definitely has the physicality (which serves the dual purpose of ensuring he can play the role for a good long while, even though he’s 35; WB likely won’t go for someone too close to 40) & anyone who’s seen “Being Human” knows that he’s no stranger to a dark side.

Thanks for the comments Robert, I agree with your assessment on the duality of Batman. I added Witwer as almost an afterthought, I desperately want him to get a franchise.

nobody knows Sam Witwer and I doubt they would cast an unknown

Nobody really knew Christian Bale, either. Ditto for Henry Cavill & Hugh Jackman. Heath Ledger, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans were all equally unlikely choices for the comic characters they got cast to play and they NAILED IT. Casting someone who’s unknown or not an immediate choice is good, because it allows them to (A) cut loose and (B) not dilute the effectiveness of their performance by having a famous face. You can’t have Tom Cruise play Batman, because all anyone’s going to think is, “There’s Tom Cruise”.
