A new rumour says Vin Diesel wanted Dwayne Johnson as Fast X’s big villain and I think there might be something to it

Well, this is as funny as it is… brilliant?

So, well all know that the tenth Fast & Furious movie is just around the corner and that the saga is set to end with the eleventh movie in the next couple of years and, on top of that, we all know that the saga used to feature Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson as Agent Luke Hobbs, who was introduced in Fast 5 when he was trying to hunt down Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his team and over the course of the next few movies he became an ally to our heroes.

However, in real life, Johnson and Diesel had an ongoing, let’s be honest, childish spat which ended with Johnson walking from the series and vowing never to return – although he will continue to star in the spinoff franchise Hobbs and Shaw alongside Jason Statham – despite the fact that he was a big part of the franchise and it seems obvious that the final two movies in the series will be drawing from past entries and will want to tie everything up, including Hobbs’ story.

Now, look, I believe we will see Hobbs in the franchise once more before it all wraps up, no matter what anyone says… or what this latest crazy, but very fun, rumour says.

Ok, so here’s the deal.

A new rumour states that Diesel had approached Johnson to come back for the final two movies but as a villain… like, a real villain.

The leak (here) states that Diesel wanted Johnson as ‘a heel’, a wrestling term which means he wanted Hobbs to turn out to be a bad guy all along, a villain hiding in plain sight all along. Now, in fairness, this rumour isn’t totally out of nowhere as in the sixth movie in the series Hobb’s partner, Rily, played by Gina Carano, was revealed to be a double agent, working for the bad guys all along, so there is a sort of precedent here.

Look, I love these movies and I love Hobbs as a character and I actually think this would be a very cool reveal for the series although I know Johnson probably would balk at the idea of playing a villain like this and, on top of that, it would sort of derail his Hobbs and Shaw franchise.

But…

In a series that has little to no concern for believability or even physics, I do kinda like this idea and now I would love to see it.

Just before you go, star Michelle Rodriquez said recently that there would be a big surprise at the end of Fast X: “I think people are gonna be really, really surprised and we’re gonna get a lot of open mouths at the end of Fast X.”

Many believed this might be the return of the later Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Connor through the magic of CGI and stand-in actors… but what if the reveal of Hobbs as the criminal mastermind behind the whole series was the real surprise.

And, on that note, one final thing.

In Hobbs and Shaw we meet many of Hobbs’ family, including his brothers but what you might not know is that Jason Momoa was set to play his brother in the movie and then couldn’t because of other commitments. After that, Momoa was cast as Fast X’s villain… what if the brother storyline is still alive and well, only not in the way we all thought?

Food for thought… but if it happens, you heard it here first; if it doesn’t, it’s still a lot of fun to speculate about.
