Darth Maul series back on the cards at Disney+?

February 8th, 2022 by Marc Comments

If you think back to 2018, the world was a very different place… not because that damned virus was still a while away, but because we had just seen Dark Mauk back on the big screen for the first time in almost 20 years when he appeared at the end of the greatly unappreciated Solo: A Star Wars Story.

‘Isn’t he dead?’ cried casual fans. ‘Holy crap, we’ve been waiting for this!’ cried the more hardcore fans in the audience.

Shortly after this, word was Maul was getting his own Disney+ series – along with possibly Han Solo (here) and Lando Calrissian (here) – however star Ray Park, em, ended up not getting the role again (here) and that seemed to be that.

However, with The Book of Boba Fett’s finale tomorrow and rumours of Emila Clarke’s Qi’ra [from Solo] getting her own spin-off series (here) – she just appeared in a new Marvel Star Wars series called War of the Bounty Hunters – it would make sense that Maul get his own series too as there’s a lot of story that still needs to be filled in, especially after Solo’s awesome ending… and now a new rumour has it that the Darth Maul series is back on the schedule for the near future (here).

Maul, despite being killed in 1999’s Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, went on to become a major player in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, so seeing him again in live-action seems almost inevitable.

While there are no details on the show, it seems likely that his rise to begin a crimelord would be the focus of the series with his second-in-command Qi’ra helping him rule his corner of the galaxy… there’s so much potential in there as there are other crime syndicates, there’s the Pikes and there’s always Han and Chewie out there too… honestly, there’s so many cool places this series, should it happen, could go.

So what do you think? Would you like to see Maul return in live-action to take on the galaxy? Let me know all your thoughts, gang…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
