Deadpool will still be r-rated in Marvel/Disney’s hands…

February 6th, 2019 by Marc Comments

Good news Deadpool fans, it looks like Marvel/Disney aren’t planning on toning down the mere with a mouth’s antics onscreen.

Speaking during Disney’s Q1 earnings call, CEO Bob Iger said he believed Deadpool needs to stay in the adult market, even though he’s likely coming into the MCU: “We see that there is certainly popularity amongst Marvel fans for the R-rated Deadpool films. We’re going to continue in that business and there might be room for more of that.”

Will it still be Ryan Reynolds? We’re certainly hoping so. If one character could walk from one universe to the other, it’s Reynolds’ Deadpool.

This is an interesting turn of events, especially with all the talk we’ve been hearing of the Black Widow movie being a potential r-rated outing (here). We speculated that this could leave room for the MCU to bring back the characters that have been lost to Netflix with the focus being on Daredevil and Punisher (you know it’s only a matter of time before Frank Castle is cancelled too).

The idea of a dark corner of the MCU containing Black Widow – a great entry point for older fans – Deadpool and the Netflix characters is an enticing one, we’ll not lie.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
