UPDATED! Does this D23 image mean the Fantastic Four IS joining the MCU? Well… probably not

So it doesn’t take much these days for the internet to meltdown and, as is fairly usual, Marvel/Disney are currently leading the way on a big meltdown at the minute.

D23 – Disney’s big showcase Expo – is currently happening (we’ll have a big roundup soon) and the image below appeared online yesterday:

Now clearly the image shows four figures on a big Avengers/MCU display that is covered up for secrecy reasons. And clearly it depicts four figures… three average-sized people and one massive one.

And, not without merit we admit, many people believe that this is The Fantastic Four.

And we can definitely see why:

And it also is fuelled by events in Marvel’s latest MCU outing Spider-man: Homecoming because Stark Tower AKA Avengers Tower has been sold and the new buyer hasn’t been revealed:

So many people are speculating that it may now be The Baxter Building where The Fantastic Four are usually based in the Marvel comics:

But, let’s be honest, given that it’s a Spider-man movie, we reckon it’s more likely that it was actually bought by Norman Osborne’s Oscorp:

Anyway…

So, is it the Fantastic Four under the cover at D23?

Well… it could be we suppose, despite MCU boss Kevin Feige saying that the FF were definitely NOT coming to the MCU anytime soon (here) and word is FOX are working on another reboot of the franchise (here).

But we really doubt it is.

So who else could it be?

Well…

It’s probably The Black Order:

(Continues after image)

Who?

Well… The Black Order is a group of lethal aliens gathered by Thanos in order to help him in his crusade to conquer different worlds.

This is backed up by the fact that it looks like Ebony Maw will be a character in Avengers: Infinity War (here). Maw is part of The Black Order (he’s top right in the image above) and was sent by Thanos to kill Doctor Strange so he could invade earth. He’s played by Irish actor Tom Vaughn Lawlor in the movie, fact fans!

So there you have it. We completely understand the excitement (look, we felt it too for a few giddy seconds) but sadly, it looks like, on this occasion at least, the hopes and dreams of fans aren’t enough.

But, hey! The Black Order!

When this is all confirmed later we’ll let you know what the truth behind the rumour is…

Stay tuned true believers.

UPDATE:

As we figured, the figures are indeed The Black Order. Thanks to the guys at Marvel Cinematic Universe for the image of Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, and Cull Obsidian – with Thanos in the middle:

He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
