Oh, DC, DC, how difficult it is to be a DC movie fan these days.
Now, look, don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of the DCEU – I even kinda like Birds of Prey – but one thing I don’t like it how they’ve treated Superman, namely Henry Cavill over the last few years. The constant is he/isn’t he of his carrying on as Superman is getting tired and between the dreadful CGI upper lip in Joss Whedon’s Justice League to the headless Superman in Shazam!, it feels like they really need to pay the coin, settle the contract – or whatever the issues are – and get Cavill back.
Oh and get Ben Affleck back as Batman – trust me on this, the fans will come in droves and DC/Warners need the win as their staring down the barrel of a disaster when The Flash comes out next year in light of all the Ezra Miller madness.
Faceless Superman cameos in finale of Peacemaker… Cavill ignored again
Now that that’s all out of the way, one of the movies I’m really excited for is Black Adam which is now merely three months away; it looks like a real universe builder and potentially a lot of fun but if there’s one thing the fans have wanted, it’s to see Adam face off against Superman.
In the comics Superman fights Black Adam on an even footing as Adam is powered by magic, something that Superman’s abilities are rendered weak by and this makes the two cracking adversaries. This is something Cavill and Johnson have teased themselves since 2016 (here)
Now, in 2020 there was a rumour that Johnson, who shares an agent with Cavill, was fighting to get Cavill back in as Superman (here) and we have heard recent rumours that Cavill will appear in Black Adam, although likely as a cameo (here), indeed, a recent rumour has it that one of the movie’s post-credit scenes will see Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) telling Superman about the arrival of Black Adam into the DCEU… although we have heard it’ll be another faceless Superman appearance. This ties into James Gunn’s comments about Superman being mentioned in Suicide Squad (here) even though he’s not sure who Superman is in the DCEU any more.
However, in a new post on social media, Johnson is tagged by a fan who says they don’t car about cameos in Black Adam but if there is one, he wants Superman, to which Johnson replies: “I’ve learned to always listen to the audience because they will always lead you to where you need to go.
I hear you & I always got you 👊🏾😉“
I mean… that’s pretty clear, don’t you think?
If Warners/DC manage to get Cavill back for Black Adam, setting up a confrontation for the duo in Black Adam 2, then the fans will be all in, I can promise that.
What say you all? Do you want to see Cavill back as Superman? Would you like to see him stand against Black Adam or is that just a silly question? Let me know, guys.
From back in the day when I was wrestling in flea markets for $40 bucks a match, all the way to now.
I’ve learned to always listen to the audience because they will always lead you to where you need to go.
I hear you & I always got you 👊🏾😉#BlackAdam @SevenBucksProd https://t.co/gqFlDwb8ud— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) July 1, 2022
