Henry Cavill may still have a big future in the DC universe as Superman… thanks to Dwayne Johnson

August 25th, 2020 by Marc Comments

With Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam panel at DC Fandome at the weekend laying out how big his movie is set to be with the Justice Society of America to be introduced in it (here) before he goes on to meet Shazam! in Shazam: Fury of the Gods (here), it was pretty obvious that DC/Warners are going all in on bringing the world’s most successful movie star into the DCEU.

But it seems that Johnston brought his own conditions too.

So, you may recall that as far back as 2015 then again in 2016 and yet again in 2016, Oh and again in 2018, that the one thing Johnson and, indeed, Henry Cavill, want is for Superman and Black Adam to go at it. And it seems that has not changed.

In fact, at DC Fandome, Johnson once again threatened Superman (watch here) and, in fact, the whole Justice League, telling them the balance of power in the DC Universe is about to change.

So, it seems this wasn’t just banter as word is Johnson has stipulated that Cavill’s Superman and he clash. And soon.

It may, at this point, be worth pointing out that Johnson and Cavill both have the same agent… who happens to also be Johnson’s ex-wife.

The new report claims that in the upcoming movie plan at DC we will see Cavill return and join forces with the Justice Society of America – set up in the Black Adam movie – as they take on Black Adam and the newly reformed Legion of Doom (remember the post credits scene in Joss Whedon’s Justice League?) and it all may be thanks to Johnson.

Yes, it seems that The Rock wants to be a big part of the DC universe moving forward and has stipulated that Cavill return and that the current DCEU, which continues the Snyderverse, stay on track.

In fact, if this is true, it may also be part of the reason we’re seeing the creation of the Multiverse idea – where several different versions of characters and stories can happily co-exist.

“The Rock made his feelings known,” and, according to the report, was heard loud and clear.

However, it seems that the new interest  behind the Snyder Cut may have had another awesome knock-on effect with Snyder being “given not only Man of Steel 2 but a third as well, completing his cinematic book on the Kryptonian”.

Fans may recall that Man of Steel, BvS, Justice League (one and two) and two further Superman movies were Snyder;s original arc for the stories.

This all ties into the reports we’re hearing that, should the Snyder Cut be a success, we may see the second part made by Snyder at HBO Max (here)… could Man of Steel 2 and 3 be depending on its success too? Only time will tell…

In a related note…

This scene (below) in the Snyder Cut trailer for Justice League (here) left fans a little confused at it clearly shows Superman being killed by Doomsday as portrayed in Batman V Superman but in a new interview Snyder confirmed what we are seeing:

“It’s literally like the opening of the movie. It’s part of the way the credits are rendered, where you see the DC logo,” Snyder said.

And it seems he’s doing a similar opening to the one he did in Batman V Superman where you see events already seen but from different point-of-view.

“It’s kind of a retelling in some ways from a certain perspective of that moment.

“There is a Lois reaction inside of all of that. It’s what you didn’t see [in BvS]. Also, in a lot of ways it reflects on Lois’ trajectory through Justice League.”

I loved the opening of Batman V Superman, I mean, LOVED it, so I hope he can repeat that here.

What say you all?
