HBO Max has found the DCEU’s Batgirl…

July 22nd, 2021 by Marc Comments

From almost getting the big-screen treatment from Joss Whedon (here) to finally finding its home on HBO Max (here), the Batgirl movie has had a bumpy road… but it seems finally we have our Barbara Gordon.

With the names attached to the role being whittled down in the last few days to Zoey Deutch, Isabella Merced and Haley Lu Richardson, it has now been announced that The Heights star Leslie Grace has nabbed the role.

The movie will be streamed on HBO Max and will start filming later this year with Bad Boys for Life’s Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah directing.

Grace isn’t the first Barbara Gordan actress making waves this year as in January it was revealed that Transcendants star Savannah Welch will play her in Titans Season 3 – also on HBO Max, however, this version will be Oracle, the hero she becomes after Joker shoots her, causing her to lose the power of her legs… so it’s a big year for the Batfamily heroine.

While we’re not getting into the predictable debate about the colour of the actress’ skin (we just want the best person for the role), we do hope she is a redhead when the movie hits screens.

Are you excited for Batgirl? Do you hope, like us, that the movie will be set in the main DCEU? Let me know what you think.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
