So, you may recall not too long ago we had an issue with the site that cost us all our posts from September to December and this is a big problem for several reasons, but the main one is that sometimes we go to reference back to things and, well, they no longer exist.
One such thing was a rumour that The Eternals star and Ireland’s own Barry Keoghan, who is appearing in The Batman (here), might actually be playing Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker.
Now, we reported in 2020 that rumour had it that a new Joker was being sought by The Batman’s writer/director Matt Reeves (here).
However, the Keoghan rumour seemed to start initially from an alleged leak after a preview screening which reported that the actor – who originally was tipped to be a police officer in the movie – appears at the end of the movie as a prisoner in Arkham Asylum? and, while not named in the movie, he certainly seems to be Joker.
After that Keoghan’s own brother tweeted that Barry was indeed playing the character – “So it’s finally out My Brother playing the JOKER in the new Batman Unreal Stuff.” – although many believed it was a joke or perhaps a few too many drinks were consumed and silly Tweets were sent (here).
However, now a new look at the movie’s credits reveal a make-up/prosthetics credit for ‘unseen Arkham prisoner’ which has us wondering again… is this Keoghan’s Joker? It certainly fits with the original leaks which said that he doesn’t appear in the movie and is seen for seconds at the end.
It certainly seems to fit and, if true, seems to suggest that Joker is already in prison and is being set up, much like in Batman Begins, for the second movie, should it happen.
Anyway, check out the listing below and let us know if you’d like to see a third incarnation – Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix are still active in various corners of the DC Multiverse – of Joker on the big screen.
We like Keoghan and find it hard to see him as Joker… but an Irish take on the Clown Prince of Crime? Yes, please…
Thoughts?
