Sometimes a little of news hits and it just makes you happy to your core and this evening, I have such a bit of news!
Samara Weaving is returning as Grace/the bride for a Ready or Not sequel and, as stated above, this makes this Nerd very happy.
If you’ve seen the original movie from Scream V and VII’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett AKA Radio Silence, you’ll know it’s a cracking little supernatural thriller/comedy that sees Weaving’s Grace marrying into a rich family with a dark secret that sees her fighting for her life playing the world’s deadliest game of, you guessed it, Ready or Not. Honestly, if you’ve not seen it, watch it now, it’s a lot of fun.
Anyway, word on the Nerdvine is that Escape Room director Adam Robitel will be helming the sequel with Weaving once again stepping into the lead role.
Grace couldn’t be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family’s luxurious estate. There’s just one catch — she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives.
Outside of Weaving and Robitel’s involvement, nothing is known about the sequel regarding writers, release date or even plot, but I have hopes that Radio Silence will once again be involved as I have a sneaky feeling that they are currently crafting a shared horror universe with this month’s Abigail being the second movie in the world; I’m basing that on nothing more than my Spider-sense tingling but let’s see what happens after it comes out and we have a better idea of if it’s connected or not.
On that note, writer James Vanderbilt said in 2022 about returning to the Ready or Not world: “I love that universe.
“We all had such a blast making that movie and it was a tough movie to make and get made. Fox Searchlight really stood behind it, which was wonderful. But it is such a very specific tone and a lot of times with stuff that’s horror-comedy, you really have to convince people that you can ride that line and that it’s going to work. And so I feel like the movie was successful in doing that, and people really love it, it would be great to revisit that universe again. That would be super fun for me. Plus, I actually play the devil in it. So for me personally, I would be very excited to do it again.”
Yeah, we’re not done with this world by a long shot… horror movie John Wick, anyone?
Also, if you’re a fan of Weaving – and why wouldn’t you be? – she’s in horror/thriller Azrael later this year.
