Mace Windu himself, the legendary Samuel L Jackson is once again making it known that he wants to return to Star Wars given the wealth of stories being told on TV and in movies under the Disney banner.
First appearing in the prequels, Windu was the second highest-ranking Jedi next to Yoda and he had many adventures during the Clone Wars before apparently dying at the hands of Anakin Skywalker [pre-Darth Vader] and the Emperor after having his arm sliced off, being electrocuted and thrown off a building – a very high building.
Samuel L Jackson says we should ‘definitely’ hold out hope for Mace Windu return
However, we have since learned that Mace didn’t die, with both George Lucas and Jackson confirming he’s still alive (here) and in the last couple of years or so there’s been a lot of rumors that we will see him back.
First, there were the rumours of a Windu Disney+ series (here), then Jackson himself seemed to tease a return (here) and then Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison said he wants Boba and Mace to face off again if we get a Book of Boba Fett Season 2 (here).

Fans will recall that Mace killed Boba’s father, Jango, in Attack of the Clones and in the Clone Wars animated series Boba tried to get his revenge but failed: “I owe [Mace] big time for my dad…. I think we’d better let Jon Favreau know that we should have another series and I start looking for Mace,” Morrison said.
Now Jackso tells Empire Magazine: “He’s not dead!!!”
Then, when asked if he’s up for Disney+ series (he’s no stranger to this, having recently appeared in Secret Invasion for Marvel, Jackon replied: “Everything, yes!”
Jackson’s last ‘appearance’ as it were as Windu was in Rise of Skywalker when his voice was heard communicating with Daisy Ridley’s Rey, but that’s not exactly having him back in the role on screen.
If Windu did return – and him going up against Boba Fett would be the natural way to do it – there would be things that needed explained such as where was he when the Empire was controlling the galaxy but, after the beating Windu took, I don’t think it’s that crazy to have him broken and in hiding, trying to regain his strength… and his missing arm.
I’d love to see Windu Vs Boba – Clone Wars fans will recall a young Boba did try to kill Mace in his prime during the war but failed miserably – and I think it would be a great way to not just give us Windu’s return but to also pick up from Book of Boba Fett season one and explore what our favorite (ex-) bounty hunter did next.
