Transformers/GI Joe movie officially in development

April 11th, 2024 by Marc Comments

We knew it was coming but now the Transformers/GI Joe movie is officially coming.

You’ll recall that at the end of the last movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, we found out that GI Joe exists in the Transformers universe and it was heavily teased that the two would meet very soon.

Now, at CinemaCon, Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke about the planned crossover and how he doesn’t look at it as a shared universe but rather just one big story: “I don’t look at things like a universe, I look at them as a story and [the Joes] will be a part of the story. I also think the term ‘crossover’ means different things for different people.

New details on the Transformers/GI Joe live-action movie crossover

“For me, the Joes, whoever they are, are entering the world of Transformers, not combining the two worlds. The plan is to eventually do [a crossover]. But, for the next movie, it’s the Joes that are coming in for whatever the ending of Rise of the Beasts has led us to believe is possible.”

Ok, but while they actually interact with each other in the movie?

“Oh, they will interact,” he says, “We haven’t developed a script yet though. What I will say is just like we do with every other movie, it will be a team of Transformers and humans fighting the fight. The Joes will be a part of that.

This is very exciting news, indeed. I’m actually with di Bonaventura on this one, I actually don’t look at this as a crossover, I like the idea that they just co-exist and I, once again, am praying that the combining of Transformers and GI Joe will lead to the creation of MASK [Mobile Armoured Stroke Komand], which I’ve been waiting a long, long time for.

Anyways, let me know all your thoughts, folks…

He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
