WATCH: Nicholas Cage gets us all excited… did he hint at Superman role in The Flash?

April 18th, 2022 by Marc Comments

One of the biggest superhero movie mythical stories ever to fall into the public conscious is that of Superman Lives.

For those who don’t know, Superman Lives was a 1990s Superman project set to be directed by then golden boy Tim Burton, fresh off the heels of Batman and Batman Returns success, and would star Nicholas Cage as the Man of Steel in a story that would pick up where The Death of Superman comic left off and would see a killed Superman return to earth in the form of Cage’s Clark Kent and not only that, Michael Keaton was at one point set to appear as Batman, long before anyone knew what a shared universe even was.

And not only was the idea thrown around, but it came very close to happening with costumes and everything created for the movie, as can be seen in the image above.

But, alas, the movie never came to be and, for good or bad, we never got to see what Cage would have done in the role.

Well, we got an idea as Cage did voice Superman in the Teen Titans GO! To the Movies movie a few years back (here) but it’s not the same as seeing him in the suit, saving the world in live-action. And, in fairness, we did hear rumours suggesting he was approached to play Superman in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earth’s Arroverse event (here) but, obviously, he declined or wasn’t asked, we’re not sure.

But we resigned ourselves to accepting it was all we would get. Until now.

In 2020 we reported on rumours that Cage had once again been approached about playing a multiverse version of Superman in The Flash movie (here) and we’d long-since accepted that it wasn’t set to happen.

However…

In a new interview, Cage is asked, below, could it still happen, to which he replies: “Would it matter how much time I appeared as the character?”

He then added: “There might still be a chance…”

And this got us thinking; it’s odd that he mentioned about would it matter how long he appeared as Superman… could this be hinting that The Flash, a movie that will bring Michael Keaton’s Batman into the main MCU, might see Cage’s Superman appear too? Could Cage be the Superman of the Keaton universe? It was hinted in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths that Brandon Routh’s Clark was that universe’s Superman but we’re dealing with a new multiverse here, where anything is possible and, I don’t know about you all, but I’m more than ready to accept Cage as the Keaton universe’s Superman.

Just me? Let me know all your thoughts, gang…
