Big Arrowverse hero set for The CW’s Naomi cameo?

April 18th, 2021 by Marc Comments

We’ve known since late last year that Ava Duvernay, whose New Gods movie project at DC/Warners has been scrapped (here), was developing a series based on DC’s Naomi at The CW (here) and now we might have a fun little detail for the show’s first episode.

The series is currently under production at The CW and is still set to be separate from the Arrowverse which now includes all the other DC shows at the network, however, it seems that it may have nods to the Arrowverse and will acknowledge it exists.

The comic will see Naomi, above, played by Power’s Kaci Walfall, a young girl who is beginning to display superpowers in a world without superheroes, surprised when she sees in the sky a fight between Superman and Mongul – characters that, to her knowledge, only exist in, yes, comic books.

So what’s happening in the episode written by Duvernay and based on the comics by Brian Michael Bendis, David F Walker and Jamal Campbell?

Well, we don’t know. It seems that Naomi lives in our world and will therefore be shocked to see this fight. Could it be break in reality? Perhaps something she imagines? Who knows?

But the big question is… will this tie into the Arrowverse?

My money would be on one of two things happening here; either they will never let us see Superman’s face, leaving us to decide who is wearing he red and blue or – and I think this is a safer bet – it will be the Arrowverse’s Superman, Tyler Hoechlin, below.

Word is that in later issues of the comics Naomi will meet more DC characters which means it has to be one of two things – either it’s a bleed in reality or, as I said above, it’s something Naomi is imagining.

Whatever it turns out to be, this would be a smart way for The CW to make a nod towards the wider Arrowverse, setting up the fact that Naomi will likely become part of it down the line – if only during the big crossover events.

What say you all? Would you like to see the Arrowverse’s Superman in the series? Let me know all your thoughts.
