We’re finally getting a book that will deep-dive into the making of one of my favourite movies, Event Horizon!
Titan Books has announced Event Horizon: The Making of the Classic Film by author Janine Pipe:
A fully authorised new retrospective on the cult sci-fi/horror movie Event Horizon.
Includes insight from the actors and filmmakers and an introduction by director Paul W.S. Anderson for a definitive guide to the 1997 film.
A cult classic, Event Horizon has been intriguing fans for nearly 30 years. With the full involvement of the film’s director Paul W.S. Anderson, this official guide describes the origins, production, reception and legacy of the atmospheric 1997 sci-fi horror film.
FIRST LOOK: IDW releasing Event Horizon prequel series this August
Set in 2047, it follows a crew of astronauts sent on a rescue mission after a missing spaceship, the Event Horizon, spontaneously appears in orbit around Neptune, only to discover that a sinister force has come back with it.
This definitive book features rare and previously unpublished archival material, behind-the-scenes photography, storyboards, and much more, alongside new and exclusive interviews with the cast and crew.
The ‘fully authorised’ book will feature interviews with the movie’s cast and crew and will look into the making of the cult space horror that has been shrouded in mystery ever since it was released almost 30 years ago in 1997, with lost deleted scenes and stuff too gory to include in the movie sitting at the forefront of the rumours for years.
Tidbit:
Author Janine Pipe announced the book on her social media:
Okay remember I’ve been teasing my next book for a while…
Absolutely thrilled to have written this and spent time getting to know Paul and interview a ton of incredible cast and crew members.
And it looks stunning as we had official access to the Paramount archives https://t.co/Re6bpQId4G— Janine Pipe – action director (@JaninePipe28) February 24, 2026
And, with the movie hitting its 30th anniversary next year, it’s great to see it still being in such high regard by fans old, like myself, and new.
But that’s not all the Event Horizon news!
Following on from the massively successful Event Horizon: Dark Descent prequel comic series, telling the story of the Gothic ship’s first crew, IDW is now releasing Event Horizon: Inferno this April, which will take place some 200 years after the events of Paul WS Anderson’s movie.
In 2040, the starship Event Horizon disappeared. Seven years later, it returned possessed by a demonic entity. After murdering its rescue crew, it was blown in half, with the front of the ship left yearning for its heart: a gravity drive designed for interdimensional travel.
Scream Factory releasing a new Collector’s Edition of Event Horizon
200 years later, a billionaire brings his own private star fleet to the wreckage around Neptune. He’s heard stories of the Event Horizon and will gleefully sacrifice any number of employees to uncover its secrets!
“I’m thrilled to continue the story of Event Horizon. First we told you the story about what happened before the events of the film and now we’re exploring what happened after the credits rolled,” said Ward. “Get ready for more sci-fi, more excitement, and especially more cosmic terror. There are more demons in Hell and we’re only just beginning.”
Oh and don’t panic if you missed it, reprints and the trade paperback collection of Dark Descent is due out this August.
So, if you’re a fan of Event Horizon, this is a great year!
Also, with the 30th anniversary coming up, might we get an announcement of the Event Horizon TV series we last heard about in 2019 from Amazon? Unlikely, but stranger things have happened…
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
