Disney CEO Bob Iger confirms: “At least three” Star Wars spin-off films in development

May 7th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Although it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed today during a Q2 Fiscal 2014 Earnings Conference Call that “at least three” Star Wars films are in development beyond the new trilogy of “Saga” films. Up until now, only two of these standalone films were confirmed. One between Episodes VII and VIII and one between VIII and IX as seen above.

Referred to in the past as “origin story films.”

We’ve heard rumors of possible spin-offs for Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda. All that is confirmed is that Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are involved in the screenplays.

Kathleen Kennedy has said that characters in the stand alone films will not be in the Saga films:

“There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the standalone films) in and out of the saga episodes. Consequently, from the creative standpoint, it’s a roadmap that George made pretty clear.”

It’s not clear if a young Han Solo counts , as technically the young Han would not be in the Saga films, just his older self.
