Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic returning for Deadpool 3 as we breakdown what the plot will likely involve

April 13th, 2023 by Marc Comments

With the addition of two familiar faces to the upcoming Deadpool 3, I thought it might be a good idea to catch you all up on some cool details and rumors that point to a full X-Men meets MCU, Multiverse adventure.

Recently, Hugh Jackman, returning as Wolverine/Logan, confirmed that the movie will use time-travel devices that will allow them to move around places and events in the Marvel world while not undoing the events of Logan… which has us wondering if it’ll be Cable’s device that Deadpool had at the end of Deadpool 2 or the devices that the Avengers used in the events of Avengers: Endgame.

The ‘not upsetting the Logan timeline’ part has been important ever since Jackman’s return was announced (here) and Jackman confirms he has spoken to Logan writer/director James Mangold about it: “He was actually really cool about it,” Jackman said, “I did tell him it takes place before our movie, so I wasn’t going to screw it up with my claws coming out of the grave. He was relieved by that.”

The star also confirmed that, as in the comics, Deadpool, played by Bryan Reynolds, will rub Wolverine the wrong way in the movie: “They hate each other!” Jackman said about the duo’s relationship in the movie, “[Logan] is annoyed by him. Frustrated by him. Wants to be a million miles away from him in this movie. He’s the fast-talking, quick-witted loudmouth and my character just wants to punch him in the head.”

So, if the events of Logan are a ‘fixed point’ then will we see Patrick Stewart back as Charles Xavier? After all, he returned last year for a fun appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel: “I’ve been told to standby. I know nothing more than that, honest,” Stewart said.

However, it seems that whether Stewart appears or not, there will be callbacks to the X-Men and Deadpool movies with the return of two familiar faces.

Yes, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic are set to return as Deadpool’s love interest Vanessa and X-Man Colossus [they join newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen] so it’s quite clear that the movie will see the Deadpool we know and love stumbling into the world of the MCU… which is great and ties into another rumour we heard a while ago,

So, if you’ve watched Loki season one, then you’ll know that the TVA [Time Variance Authority] is an organisation set up to exist outside of time and space and to manage the timelines of our realities, ensuring that all goes as it should do… in the show, we learn that whenever Loki jumped out of his own timeline in Avengers Infinity War, he changed the course of time and set in motion things that were never meant to be, so I reckon this will mean that Deadpool having Cable’s time travel device – which he’s using to change things – will mean that the TVA will be coming after him.

Did we just learn how Reynolds and Jackman’s Deadpool and Wolverine will step in the MCU?

This ties into the rumour from a while back that Owen Wilson, who played Agent Moebius in Loki, will star in Deadpool 3 along with Miss Minutes, the TVA mascot voiced by the legendary Tara Strong – it makes sense if they are looking to stop the Merc with the Mouth from meddling with time.

This is a theory I’ve had since December last year and it makes sense, given that the multiverse saga is currently going on and reality in the MCU is crumbling, so having Deadpool involved actually makes a lot of sense.

Whatever happens, I can’t wait to see Reynolds, Jackman, Baccarin and the others back and, hopefully, heading into the MCU.

Thoughts?

Shawn Levy is set to direct Deadpool 3 with Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese returning to pen the script with Zeb Wells.
Deadpool 3 is set for release on November 8, 2024.
