So, while I – and all of you, I hope – was annoyed to hear the great Bruce Campbell was retiring his chainsaw after the third season of Ash Vs Evil Dead (here) and then adding that there would likely be more Evil Dead, just not with him (here), it seems there may still be a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Sam Raimi, original trilogy writer and director, has revealed that there has been discussions about a new Evil Dead movie and he’s hoping to get Campbell back.
The franchise’s timeline is, of course, more confused than Fox’s X-Men movies, but that’s never tainted our love for it.
“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce, Rob [Tapert, producer] and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie,” Raimi said.
“We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”
He goes on to say that perhaps Fede Alvarez, director of the pretty damn good reboot/sequel would be interested, although these days he’s a busy man.
That said, Alvarez has said a sequel to his movie will likely happen on several occasions, one as recently as a year ago (here and here).
Campbell did, of course, pop up at the end of Alvarez’s movie, so a sequel/crossover has always been anticipated by fans, so hopefully Raimi and Campbell can make it happen.
Thoughts?
