The CW announces date for Swamp Thing’s debut

August 17th, 2020 by Marc Comments

We reported back in May (here) that, due to lack of new shows being made in the time of that damned virus, DC universe’s Swamp Thing series – which was prematurely cancelled mid-first season, was jumping over to The CW, who also homes the Arrowverse shows.

And now we know when it’s happening.

The first – and only – season of the DC Horror series will appear on October 6th which, given the festive season, makes a certain amount of sense.

The series was originally part of the DC Universe line-up alongside Titans, Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn and was a very dark, full of body-horror, exploration of the creation of one of comics’ darkest heroes.

And it was also quite brilliant, getting a lot of love from fans and critics alike before it was cut short without warning.

We also learned that, had the series continued, we would have seen the creation of the Justice League Dark universe (here). It’s also curious because we have now learned that all of DC Universe’s shows are moving to HBO Max, although the streamer will still exist, and HBO Max’s plan for DC is to… create the Justice League Dark (here).

We did speculate that The CW, as they did with Supergirl and Constantine, might find a way to resurrect the show and bring it into the Arrowverse… although we have a feeling that this is unlikely at this stage.

It is also rumoured that, due to the pretty extreme gore and horror in the show, it will be trimmed for The CW audience.

I guess it could be argued that Swamp Thing will be – unofficially at least – part fo the Arrowverse now. It also made an appearance in last year’s massive Arrowverse crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, appearing on Earth 19:

The show will kick-off with a 90-minute special with that being either one episode with a lot of ads, or the first two – heavily trimmed – episodes together.

Will you be watching for the first time/again/not at all? Let me know, DC Fans…
