One of our favourite shows here at FTN HQ is Severance, but one of the most frustrating things about it is the painfully long pauses between seasons and the not knowing what is coming next for the staff of Lumon Industries.
One person who doesn’t have these issues is Mark S actor, Adam Scott, who says he already knows how the story ends.
“Oh, yes. I’m an executive producer on the show, so I’m involved in all of it. We talk with the writers and Dan [Erickson] all the time. I know everything about what’s going on. [As an actor] I like having as much information as possible.”
Alright, you don’t need to be a dick about it!

With season 3 of the hit Apple series, which is now produced in-house by the streamer, getting ready to film in the coming weeks, the star is excited for what’s coming next: “It’s going to be great. There are so many surprises. I can’t wait to shoot it.”
Keen to point out Ben Stiller, who’s not directing next season, is still involved, he says that everyone os keen to get back: “Ben is still very involved in the show. It’s going to be great. You know, it’s been over two years since we finished shooting Season 2. We’re all anxious to get back. We miss each other.”
Scott also spoke about why he was drawn to the role as an actor primarily known for comedic roles, he describes it as a ‘full meal’, saying: “It felt like a complicated character and a complicated world – and an adventure. Everything I’d done up to that point, those were all things that fulfilled me. But this felt like more of a culmination.”
On the mystery of Severance, the core storyline that keeps fans coming back, wanting more, and rewatching, Scott is keen to highlight the influence of other iconic shows, though he is modest about the comparisons: “I love Twin Peaks so much and I love that people keep discovering it over and over again. I don’t know if [Severance] will live in culture and be remembered like that, but I agree – there’s a lot of power in not knowing.”

However, if you’re someone who likes a clean, definitive ending, prepare yourself to not get it with Severance as Scott goes on: “Something we’re always trying to do on the show is retain an element of mystery. I loved the way The Sopranos ended. I was frustrated by it, but it was brilliant and I still haven’t figured it out. I love it not only in TV shows or movies, but I like it in music. I’ve always loved bands that wouldn’t tell you everything about how music was made and who made it. I like when there’s a place for my imagination to reach out and meet the work.”
As for the wider universe of Severance, it seems that there are more irons in the fire than just the main series. I have reported in the past that there’s likely going to be more shows in the Severance universe. It’s now confirmed that while they’re preparing to film season 3, season 4 is also greenlit, which ties into Stiller and writer Dan Erickson’s previous comments that they envision 4 seasons. It’s unlikely to go beyond that, but they and Apple are looking at a possible prequel, spinoffs and foreign versions.

I believe the idea is that the main series takes about three years in between seasons, so these more limited shows could fill those voids – think A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compared to House of the Dragon in terms of show scale.
Whatever comes of this, it certainly looks like the Severance story will end with season 4 but the wider world is still ripe for exploration.
If they can keep the same quality, I have no issue with that.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
