Into the Spider-Verse 2, could this be Marvel’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, bringing Sony and Fox into the fold?

November 21st, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

Last year we were witness to one of Marvel’s greatest animated movies, Into the Spider-Verse, and with a sequel on the way (here), this has the chance to open up so many windows in the MCU as well as Sony’s Spider-man universe.

The Spider-Verse all started off with Miles Morales, an African-American Spider-Man that hasn’t gotten as much attention in the past compared to the friendly neighborhood Peter Parker but now not only could he be coming into the live-action MCU but he could be bringing some long-lost friends.

Word on the street is that Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield AND Tobey Maguire could all be working on something together, and by the looks of things, we’re guessing they’re working on Into the Spider-Verse 2, pulling together all the different Spideys of our time (along with a Japanese Spider-Man we brought you the news of last week), so if this is to happen, how do they all get there?

We already know that Sony’s Amy Pascal has hinted that all three live-action Spider-men meeting isn’t out of the question (here). We know that Holland HAD filmed an unused cameo for Venom that Marvel would not allow to be included in the movie (here). We also know that Holland almost had a cameo in the original Into the Spider-verse movie and that the Kraven The Hunter movie at Sony was to include Spider-man (here) AND Miles Morales already exists in the MCU with Donald Glover playing his uncle Aaron Davis (AKA the villainous Prowler) in Spider-man: Homecoming.

Well, this would all be thanks to Doctor Strange’s second feature, the Multiverse of Madness.

The multiverse is the only possible way to connect all the different Spideys through time and into the animated world. Now, if we’re right and this door is opened, then another possibility arises… a door once opened can be stepped through in any direction, and this means that Tobey and Andrew could, in theory, step through and enter the MCU along with Tom for a Spidey triple threat.

Let’s not also forget that Sony’s developing a Madame Web movie and comic fans will know that that character can see into the Spider-verse, meaning this too could potentially connect to the MCU in new, exciting ways now that we know tom Holland’s Spider-man will go between the MCU and the Sony movies (it’s all got very complicated).

We’ve already done a list of ways the MCU and Sony Spider-verse were already possibly connected here.

Now we also know that Marvel/Disney have just announced a slate of release dates with some gaps filled and others not

The new dates are 7th of October 2022, 17th of  February 2023, 5th of May 2023, 28th of July 2023 and 3rd of November 2023. Now for the next two years we have Black Widow and Eternals arriving next year, then Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, a third Spider-Man and Thor: Love And Thunder in 2021. So, based on what we know so far, that means this new slate of movies will likely include Black Panther 2, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, Captain Marvel 2, Ant-man 3 and blade. But here’s the kicker… could we see Blade overlapping with Jared Leto’s upcoming Moebius movie? Afterall, Moebius, the living vampire, and Blade are not strangers in the comics and with Moebius due in July next year, it’s not too late to lay some connective tissue.

Now, as well as this we could also expect to see the merc with the mouth, Deadpool, make an entrance, co-writer Paul Wernick has addressed that they have several projects planned for Ryan that aren’t just the Deadpool movies. Into the Spider-Verse would be the perfect introduction with so much love between Spider-Man and Deadpool that no-one would even notice there wouldn’t be any swearing from Deadpool. From this he can then be brought into the real MCU universe. We do, after all, know that Reynolds has already started talks with Marvel/Disney (here) and there has been rumours before that the third Spider-man movie could see Deadpool and Vemon tied into the MCU (here).

Just to pile on a little extra, a few months ago when Tom Holland was being fought over between Disney and Sony he did an interview, in this he acknowledged that Miles would be making an appearance into the real world. Since all has been sorted out between the two companies now this should probably be taken with a grain of salt as we’re not sure if Sony will allow Disney to steal everyone since it also looks like they’ll be taking Venom for a Spider-Man feature too.

What do you think will happen in the second Spider-verse? Are we close or way of the mark? You decide and, until then, stay nerdy folks.
