Chris Evans return to the MCU will be ‘separate from Captain America 4’

So, this is a bumpy trip, isn’t it?

So, after Avengers Endgame Chris Evans said he was done with playing Captain America (here), which made sense as the character had a natural progression and ending to his story.

However, recently we’ve been reporting from reputable sources that Evans is set to return to the role of Steve Rogers in the MCU at some point in the future (here) and we’re hearing it may be connected to Wolverine’s debut in the MCU (here), which would make sense, given his history in the MCU being a long one and Wolverine likely having been around for a while – this could be the Wolverine anthology series we’ve reported on last week (here).

Then, just this morning we reported that a fourth Captain America movie is in development with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in the title role (here) and it seemed like this would be the natural place for him to return and, while that’s not totally out of the question, it seems this is not the project we’ve been hearing about that would see him return.

Deadline have reported on the fourth Captian movie saying that “the possible Chris Evans Captain America project would be separate”.

Now, in the comics for a period Steve Rogers walked away from being Captain America and became a character called Nomad, left, when he learned that a top politician was the leader of a terrorist organisation. In fact, the closest Steve came to Nomad was his character from Avengers: Endgame when he went a little darker after the events of Captain America: The Winter soldier.

Could Nomad be the movie? Well, there’s still a massive chunk of Steve’s life that is unknown in the MCU from when he went back and settled down with Peggy Carter until when he came back as an old man and gave the shield to Falcon… could we see the character appear as a period hero, not within the modern MCU but maybe in the 1970s or 80s? I’d watch the heck out of that, truth be told.

But, bottom line, if this turns out to be true – and it’s been going around so long, I believe it is – then we’re on the cusp of, technically, two separate Captain America movies on the horizon.

That’ll do, donkey, that’ll do.

Thoughts?
